Five things to do when you get engaged
1. Pop a bottle of champagne, or two, or three.
A bottle of Veuve Cliquot or Laurrent-Perrier is a great way to mark the occasion, a few bubbles help get you in the spirit of this exciting part of your life. Celebrate just the two of you first and then with all your friends and family later.
2. Tell everyone you love.
Pick up the phone or FaceTime your family then closest friends. Resist the urge to post an engagement picture on social media until you’ve spoken to all your loved ones. If you start getting questions like “have you set a date” you can answer with “we’re just so excited to tell everyone right now”.
3. Enjoy the love bubble.
Make time for just the two of you. This time is so special, once you’ve spread the word don’t immediately go back to your normal routine. Find small ways to celebrate and spend time together. Have a romantic dinner at home and talk about your first date and when you knew you wanted to spend the rest of your life together. Light some candles in the bedroom and experience what it’s like to be together now that you’re a forever couple. Try having a movie night at home; make some popcorn and snuggle under your duvet.
4. Don’t get overwhelmed.
This first week of your engagement goes very quickly, so enjoy it. Pop champagne, enjoy each others company and don’t do any planning. Just remember your other half has just said they want to spend the rest or their life with you so you’ve got plenty of time to plan the wedding. The only thing you should do as quickly as possible is to get your ring insured, if it hasn’t been done already. You can get the ring appraised at most jewellers and then speak to your home insurance about adding this to your coverage. It’s better to be safe than sorry.
